Which
studies the past ?
The latest step forward for indie rock is a step
backwards:bands playing in a style reminiscent of yesteryear's rock 'n'
roll greats. Olivia Tremor Control's new album updates and refashions
old sounds, and the Lilys revel in anthemic '50s/'60s mod pop on their
most recent singles. This aptly titled single studies the past with the
A-side's "Warfare Murder Plot," which swings into motion with psychedelic
swirls of organ and vocals and then grooves along with a blithe pop melody.
"Baby's A Dealer" is a cool tip of the hat towards down-'n'-dirty '60s
garage rock.
